Piccolo in Venice
Seaside restaurant Piccolo, widely acclaimed and a winner of the 2007 Zagat award for Best Italian Restaurant, had a difficult time keeping up with demand due to its petite space. Located mere steps from the sands of Venice Beach, it’s now reopened after an extensive renovation and expansion that nearly doubled the dining room and added an eight-seat bar and wine cellar room. The northern Italian menu still soars: lamb carpaccio with marinated celery, pan-roasted foie gras-stuffed quail, a light amaretto semifreddo. The latest offering is its “reversal dinner,” three- or five-course meals in which the diner first selects his preferred wines from a list of some 30 labels, which chef Roberto Ivan subsequently pairs to dishes. 5 Dudley Ave., Venice, 310.314.3222 Map M8
